TimberTech manufactures several outdoor living products, including decking, railing, lighting, under deck drainage, and cladding

TimberTech offers two main categories of decking: PVC Decking and Composite Decking.  Once you decide on a category, then look at the available collections.  Each collection has its own design characteristics and color options.  Board textures can vary from crosscut grain to cathedral grain.

Advanced PVC Decking

Advanced PVC Decking by TimberTech is a preferred choice because it offers a realistic wood look and excellent performance.  The five reasons to like this decking option are:

  1. Materials: each board is made of recycled polymers which make the product resistant to mold and will not crack or peel.
  2. Sustainability: the boards are made with 60% recycle material and are fully recyclable.
  3. Warranty: the product comes with a 50-year fade and stain limited warranty.
  4. Surface Temperature: the boards are noted to stay up to 30% cooler, making them better for bear feet.  And the boards offer up to 40% better traction.
  5. Fire Zones: the boards have are rated as Class A Flame Spread rating, WUI-compliant (or both).

You can read about these benefits and view the available color collections here.

Composite Decking

Composite deck boards also offer a wood look; however, the boards are constructed differently.  The boards have a polymer cap that keeps our moisture and creates a durable surface. These category is also organized into collections.  The Legacy collection, for example, has the appearance of a hand-shaped finish; whereas, the entry level Premier Collection looks less realistic and more like a painted surface.

The key features of TimberTech composite decking are:

  1. Warranty: the fade and stain warranty is either 30 or 25 years, depending on the exact deck board you choose.
  2. Capped Composite: the cap protects the board from mold and offers a low-maintenance benefit.
  3. Sustainability: the boards are made in the USA from approximately 85% recycled materials.

Unique Design Options from TimberTech

Multiwidth Decking
  • TimberTech offers deck boards in three different widths.  Deck boards are typically 5.5″ wide.  But for the Vintage and Harvest collections, TimberTech also offers boards that are 7.25″ and 3.5″ wide.
  • This is a great solution for creating a unique pattern for your backyard deck.
  • Multiwidth decking may also an economical solution if your deck is an atypical size.  The widest deck board can be used for a picture frame to potentially eliminate undesirably thin saw cut deck boards.

Porch Decking
Porch boards are an excellent solution for homes seeking to maintain a historical look. You certainly could use a porch board on a screen porch, but this option is most often used for front porches.  Think of a deep front porch on a craftsman style home.
Here is how TimberTech describes the porch board: “Our high-performance, low-maintenance porch boards are designed with a tongue-and-groove system for minimal gapping, giving you a smooth surface you’ll never have to sand, stain, or seal.”

Boards are available in a narrow width (3.1″) and standard width (5.5″).

Common Questions

Each situation is unique, but generally a pressure treated wood deck is less expensive than a composite deck. We suggest, however, that you not just consider initial construction costs. Wood decks will require more ongoing maintenance and care, and typically wood decks have a shorter useful life. When you are discussing over the options with your design consultant because sure to review how weather and use may affect the total cost of the project over a 10 to 15 year period.

Sometimes a simple repair of a damaged deck board by a handyman is all you need. But if the deck is showing broad wear on the decking surface or deterioration with the structure, then give us a call at Deck Creations.

Trex deck boards are available with a solid or grooved edge. How the board will be used often determines the edge profile. At Deck Creations, we picture frame all our decks by default. This creates a nice clean finished look. To achieve this we use square edge boards for the perimeter and grooved edged boards for the interior.
